Govardhan Puja

Govardhan Puja, Oct 20, 2017

When we see rain with thunder, we remember the incessant rains that tormented Vrndavana 5000 years ago whereupon Lord Sri Krishna, even though a mere boy, lifted up the Govardhana hill to protect the people, cows and cattle of his village.

The method and glory of Govardhana puja was personally shown by Lord Krishna and in the Srimad Bhagavatham, we read of His direction that His devotees must worship Sri Govardhana in a very grand way every year.

HH Bhanu Swami spoke on the glories of worshipping Govardhan Hill. This was followed by Damodara arati. Devotees then proceeded to the function hall where the annakut was ready. Devotees spent two hours using food items to make a little hill and give it the personality of Govardhan. The temple Govardhan Shila was placed on top. After offering arati, a cow and calf were brought to circumambulate the deity. After that all the devotees circumambulated Govardha. Varieties of prasadam was distributed to all the devotees.
